DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITY:
An optician is a technical practitioner who designs, fits and dispenses corrective lenses and other optical aids. They work from prescriptions written by optometrists and ophthalmologists. They also advice parents on how to wear and take care of their spectacles. Opticians may work in any variety of settings such as joint practice, hospitals, laboratories, eye care centers or retail stores. However, registered opticians have to meet standards of practice and training, commit to ongoing education, hold professional liability insurance and are held to these standards by their respective regulating bodies.
SALARY:$44,771
EDUCATION: To be an optician you have to have a high school diploma with on the job training or apprenticeship or certificate associates degree or bachelor’s degree in opticianry for career advancement.
